Why Poker Chips Made of Clay Are So Popular?

Recently, I spoke to one of my closest friends. She excitedly said that she has learned to play poker, and that she really enjoyed being with friends and playing it. She enjoyed the game very much which was set up by one of our common friends. 

Our conversation was started from a simple "hi" and "hello", and it went to become a very detailed discussion about poker and all the elements that are associated with the game. She also told me that she was so excited by the male players who praised the poker chips that they used for the game and that how a couple of players argued on the best material for poker chips. I quickly told my friend who was new to learning poker that the selection of poker chips for men is very important and sometimes as tough as women making selection for a lipstick or the right shoes to wear. 

I also added that chips are usually made up of three different types of materials (metal, clay and plastic) it is important to know the difference among all the three. I however, shown my interest to the clay and clay-composite chips and discussed with her about the following benefits: 

1) Clay was the very first component that was used in the standard-sized poker chips that casinos used in the early days. However, chips made of clay are usually considered to be very fragile and thus, they are very prone to breakage in case they aren't handled carefully by the players.      

2) Because of modern technology in place, the clay chip is not exactly made up of clay. Instead, a very durable plastic known as "Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene" or "ABS" is mixed with the clay to prevent the chip from breaking and from being destroyed easily. The ABS also blocks the scratching and denting of the chips.  

3) Another biggest benefit of clay-composite chips is that they are heavier than that of plastics and metal-based chips. It has been seen that the heavier the chip, the easier it is to handle. Chips made of clay can also be designed in terms of weight by inserting a miniature piece of metal which is built into the chip. 

4) No matter, you're a real poker enthusiast or just a collector of poker chips, clay and clay-composite chips possess a higher quality look than plastic chips. The colors and designs that are printed or painted on clay-composite chips are bright and do not lose their shine easily. 

5) Probably the biggest advantage of having chips made of clay is that if you're the only one among your poker buddies who have them, then it will contribute to the overall intimidation that you bring to the poker game with you.
